US President Donald Trump said he plans to speak with Taiwanese leader Lai Ching-te regarding a possible arms sale, marking a major shift from long-standing diplomatic practice. Washington and Taiwanese leaders have not directly spoken since 1979, when the US officially recognized Beijing instead of Taipei. China, which claims Taiwan as its territory, strongly opposes such moves as tensions continue to rise in the region over defence and sovereignty issues. #DonaldTrump #Taiwan #China #USA #Geop
